Privacy policy

How MatchDay collects, uses, shares, and protects your data.

Effective July 21, 2026

Who we are

MatchDay is an app and website that helps sports fans find and host watch parties for their teams. This policy explains what personal information MatchDay ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the MatchDay iOS app, the Android app, and matchdaytx.com.

By creating an account or using MatchDay, you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.

Information you give us

Account: your email address and a password (passwords are stored only as salted hashes — we never see the plain text).

Profile: your name, handle, profile photo, bio, home city, and the teams you follow. This is the core of MatchDay — it lets other fans see who else is going to a watch.

Content you create: watch events you host, RSVPs, event cover photos, and any reports you file. You choose what to share.

Information we collect automatically

Location: with your permission, the map uses your device location only while the app is open, to show watches near you. We do not track your location in the background, and we do not store a history of where you have been.

Device & usage: if you opt in to analytics, we collect app events (for example: app opened, watch viewed, RSVP added) tied only to your account ID — never your name, email, or precise location. Analytics is off unless you turn it on in Account settings.

Diagnostics: if the app crashes or hits an error, we collect crash and error reports (attached only to your account ID) so we can fix bugs.

Device permissions we ask for

Location — to show watches near you on the map (used only while the app is open).

Camera & Photos — so you can set a profile picture and add cover art to the watches you host.

Notifications — so we can tell you about RSVPs, waitlist promotions, and updates to watches you are going to.

Calendar — so you can add a watch you are attending straight to your calendar. This writes to your device only; the calendar data is not sent to us.

You can grant or revoke any of these at any time in your device settings. The rest of the app keeps working if you say no.

How we use your information

To run MatchDay: create your account, show your profile, list watches, manage RSVPs and waitlists, and reveal an event address to confirmed attendees.

To keep MatchDay safe: review reports, enforce our community guidelines, apply your blocks, and remove content or accounts that break the rules.

To communicate with you: send RSVP and event notifications and respond to support requests.

To improve MatchDay: understand which features fans use (only if you opted in to analytics) and diagnose crashes.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

When your information is visible to others

Your profile (name, handle, photo, bio, home city, teams) and your RSVPs are visible to other MatchDay users, so watches feel communal and you can see who else is going.

The exact address of a watch is hidden by default and is shared only with the host and attendees the host has confirmed.

When you block someone, you disappear from each other across the app. Reports you file are confidential — the person reported is not told who reported them.

Service providers we share with

Supabase — our secure backend and database host, which stores your account, profile, and event data on our behalf.

PostHog (US) — product analytics, and only if you have opted in. It receives app events tied to your account ID, with no name, email, or precise location.

Sentry (US) — crash and error monitoring, which receives diagnostic reports tied to your account ID.

These providers process data only to provide their service to us, under their own security and privacy commitments. We share the minimum needed and never sell your data.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and profile information for as long as your account is active. Analytics and diagnostic data are retained for a limited period by our providers and are tied only to an account ID.

When you delete your account, we remove your profile, your RSVPs, and the watches you hosted from MatchDay. Some records may persist briefly in encrypted backups or where we are required to keep them by law, and are then deleted.

Your choices and rights

Access and update: edit or clear your profile any time from Profile → Edit profile.

Analytics: turn product analytics on or off any time under Account settings.

Block: block any user you do not want to interact with.

Delete your account: from Account settings (or by emailing us), which removes your profile and RSVPs from MatchDay.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to certain processing. Email us and we will help.

Children

MatchDay is for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.

Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls on our backend so users only see what they are allowed to. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep MatchDay safe and to notify you if a breach ever affects you.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as MatchDay grows. When we make a material change, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
